The China Diet: Week 4

Week 4 of The China Diet had some same stuff from the weeks before, and also some new things that were added in.

Monday morning, breakfast was a new oatmeal creation of mine. A combination of eggs with oats, blueberries, cinnamon and milk...I fried it all up on the stove, and bam! There you go.

It's a bit of a bizarre mystery to me as to why I did not take photos of my lunch or my dinner that day but apparently I didn't. So I honestly couldn't tell you what transpired. I can only say that my life has been incredibly stressful as of late, and there may have been a lapse in consciousness of not taking those pictures.

Nevertheless, the following morning, I had my standard plain yogurt with fresh blueberries.

Again, very little clue as to what lunch was because I did not photograph it.

Dinner however was incredibly decadent. Steak with a cilantro sauce on top. Wow. It was amazing.

The next day, my meals at work were a little off...

I had some simple scrambled eggs for breakfast...

Followed by plain yogurt with fresh blueberries for lunch

But as suspected, I got hungry and ate only half of a hamburger patty I'd made for myself, which had egg on top - that didn't get eaten though because it was cold by then.

Dinner was my favorite dish from the week before, the steak with bok choy, garlic, green onion, soy sauce and jasmine rice. Oh dear Lord, it's just heavenly. I wish I could eat this every night. It's so good!
And I must say, this wine I bought the week before has also become my new favorite. It's one of the best wines I've literally ever had. And what I mostly like about it, not just it's smoothness and delicious pallet, is that it is made with organic  grapes, which may explain why it gives me no headaches the day of or the next morning.

The next morning it was breakfast as usual, plain yogurt with fresh blueberries mixed in...

Lunch wasn't particularly fantastic, and I won't be making this again in the future. Hamburger patties made with egg and precooked rice.

Dinner was leftovers from the night before.

The next morning I had some scrambled eggs with mushrooms...

While lunch was leftovers from the day before...

And once again, because it was Friday evening and I did my standard trip to Whole Foods, and didn't get home until much later in the evening, I kept it simple again with the same thing as the Friday before: 100% beef salami with fresh mozzarella, and pine nuts. I was all out of grapes and since my upcoming diet didn't include them, I didn't want to spend the money for one evening's worth, just to turn around and have to either give them away or throw them out. I also had a beer with my dinner, and it was satisfyingly delicious.
Saturday, was my cheat day and it was epic as usual. Whole Foods always has me tempted with their dessert case and this time they reeled me in.  I bought three small pastries to try the next day and I was right about saving the best for last.

So for breakfast, I indulged in half of a chantilly pastry with jam filling, and a caramel macchiato from Starbuck's - something I haven't had in literally years. Quite possibly 10.

Before leaving work, I had two bites of this teeny-tiny chocolate cupcake...

And then for lunch, I went out with my good friend to a Serbian owned pub, where I had some European food. Something new, and while it wasn't out of this world spectacular, it was nice to just order something off of a menu and not worry about what was in it. Grilled pork with french fries, mayonnaise and pita bread. Just enough to hold me over until dinner that evening....oh, and I also had a lemon drop cocktail!

As a snack I had just a few tortilla chips and some homemade guac...

Dinner was so good, and I was just as excited to find this as I was to eat it.

Boston Market! Chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and meatloaf. It was something I hadn't had in years, and was so happy to have thought of the choice.

Dessert, was the last mini-pastry that I'd gotten the day before, and it was absolutely the best one. A chocolate pastry filled with raspberry jam and chocolate...so yummy!

Sunday, after I recovered from the sugar and carb coma, I had lunch once I got home from church - skipping breakfast once again.

I made baked chicken with lime rice on the side.

The same was for dinner, as I had prepared enough for both meals.

And that concludes The China Diet. It was honestly my favorite diet that I've done this year, and I will be revisiting some of these recipes again in life. But for now, the 4 weeks was enough to hold me over.

It's now time to get to the first week of my next diet. Stay tuned for the next entry coming soon...
